October is black cat awareness month

October is the month for black cats.

All  cat deserve a loving home but sadly black cats are often overlooked and because of this they have the lower adoption rate, according to the RSPCA black cats take 3 times as long to find a forever home than say a tabby cat.

Black cats are seen as a sign of bad luck and this dates back to the 13th century where they were linked with evil and witchcraft. While superstitions play a factor it why black cats are always overlooked, is also said that social media plays a part because black cats 'dont look good' in Instagram photos which really isn't true.

There are so many reasons as to why you should adopt a black cat.  Research has shown that black cats have an evolutionary advantage due to their natural camouflage and that they are less prone to diseases than other felines because of the gene that gives them their black fur. So scientifically they are less likely to get certain illnesses.

In Ancient Egypt  all cats were worshipped and were seen as sacred. The Egyptian goddess Bastet is often portrayed as having a body of a women and a head of a black cat.
